The Programme is an intensive 20 week (25 hours per week) programme. There are 3 subject areas:
- English Preparation for Tasmanian Polytechnic (16-18 hours per week)
- Academic Study Skills (4-6 hours per week)
- Mainstream Course Unit (3-4 hours per week)

- Learn and practice the four macro skills: Listening, Speaking, Reading, Writing
- Grammar skills and vocabulary development
- Oral presentation skills required for academic study at Tasmanian Polytechnic
- Lessons based on exploring themes, current affairs and current issues relevant to academic study
- Computer research and word processing skills
- Options programme classes, such as Everyday English, Creative Writing, and Grammar Correction
Academic Study Skills
- Note-taking from spoken and written texts
- Oral and written summaries
- Reading and writing different text types, e.g. cause and effect, describing trends
- Academic writing style, identifying text structure and discussion skills
- Library and Internet research skills
- Assignment writing, e.g. references, bibliography
- Tutorial discussion skills
Mainstream Course Unit
