Tasmanian Polytechnic English Language Centre offers flexible start dates during term times, with academic programs for direct entry into Tasmanian Polytechnic courses as well as short courses, study tours and programs designed for working holiday makers.

Lessons are structured to meet the students' English needs of living and travelling in Australia, preparing for the IELTS examination and going on to further study. A variety of teaching and learning styles is encouraged, with classrooms, computer labs, libraries, kitchens and excursions all used to maximise students' opportunities to practice and develop their English.

The Hobart English Language Programme offers individual attention in an excellent learning environment. The program concentrates on developing students' ability to communicate in everyday real-life situations and covers all language skills (speaking, listening, reading and writing).

Some English classes may be offered with migrant students.

Students study the Certificate in Spoken and Written English at Level II or Level III. On completion of the required modules, students may be eligible to receive the appropriate Certificate level or Statement of Attainment.

Options classes are available two afternoons per week, such as Excursions, IELTS Preparation, and Australian English Pronunciation. Weekly excursions are great fun and an excellent way to practice English. Activities and visits include horse riding, short nature walks, historic townships, farms, chocolate factories and wildlife centres. Options for this year have included:

Students can attend classes for a short or long term program, with a minimum enrolment of 6 weeks.

Classrooms are bright and relaxed and the centre is very close to the main Tasmanian Polytechnic Hobart campus. There is access to computers at both the centre and the main campus that have multi-language capability. The English Language Centre has an extensively resourced library that specialises in English learning.
