High Schools

A small number of High Schools are available for international students wanting to enrol in Years 7 to 10. High Schools are comprehensive and co-educational. They offer English as a Second Language (ESL) programs so that students can be accepted directly into the school.

In Year 7, students are taught all available subjects so that they can make informed choices in Years 8, 9 and 10. In Years 8, 9 and 10, students can specialise and select subjects that match their individual interests, talents and career ambitions. Students are also required to study some compulsory subjects each year, including English, Mathematics, Science and Social Science. International students are provided with many opportunities to participate in the full range of extracurricular activities offered by the schools. These include sporting and musical programs, and may also include school trips to other places in Tasmania, Australia or overseas. High School programs are an excellent preparation for the Senior Secondary Years 11 and 12. Equally, they provide an extensive learning and cultural experience for students undertaking a one-year or short-term program.
