Elizabeth College
Success Stories
Macy
|

|
Macy is a Chinese girl who studied at Elizabeth College in years 11 and 12. She adjusted well to the new lifestyle and being in different homestays. She enjoyed her time at the school very much. In her second year she went on a school study trip to Japan, and chose a variety of subjects, including Accounting, which is what she is enjoying at university now. She decided to study at the University of Tasmania because she had visited Melbourne and thought it was too busy and not as friendly as Hobart. Now she is well-settled in her studies for a double degree in Commerce and Information Systems. She wants to get a marketing job in China when she completes the course.

Lu spent two years at Elizabeth College, studying mainly Sciences and Maths, but also choosing other subjects of interest, like Twentieth Century History and Drama. He became involved in chess and many outside activities with a special group of talented students at Elizabeth College.
In his final results, he got a TR score of 99.15 and a TE score of 109.2. This enabled him to get a scholarship to the Australian National University to do a degree in Philosophy, specialising in Maths and Chemistry.

Meki

Maki came to Elizabeth College from Saitama in Japan. She stayed here for a year, and then finished her studies in Japan before beginning nursing training.
She enjoyed staying in Tasmania so much that she came back recently to visit and to catch up with old friends and her homestay family. She says that in Japan she didn't have enough opportunity to speak and practise English, and so it was a good chance and fun to do it here. She also made friends with people from different countries and learned about their cultures, so it was a personally enriching time for her. She encourages anyone who wants to improve their English and have fun to do the same thing as she did!

Hello, I'm Greg Guan, and I studied years 11 and 12 at Elizabeth College. Now I am doing Commerce at the Australian National University in Canberra. I am sharing a house with another Chinese student. There is a lot of reading and work to do so I am quite busy.
When I finish my degree course I hope to do a Masters and later work as a manager.

James

I'm James from China. I did well in grade 12 at Elizabeth College and I got a scholarship to go to the University of Tasmania. This scholarship gives me a 25% discount on my fees.
I'm doing Information Systems because I want to work later in the field of electronic commerce. It's more difficult at university than I expected, but I am managing well. I am also doing a major in Japanese.
For me it is good to be at the University of Tasmania because I already have some friends from Elizabeth College

Wenjun
|

|
Hello, my name is Wenjun and I came to Hobart from Shanghai in 2000. I have lived with the same homestay family all the time I have been here, so it is a real home away from home. I learned a lot about the Australian education system in years 11 and 12 at Elizabeth College and I was offered a scholarship to the University of Tasmania at the end of year 12, so that's where I am!
I am studying for a degree in Commerce, because I want to work in business later, but I also have a lot of friends here and have a good social life.

Shan
|

|
I'm Shan from China. I love working with computers. At Elizabeth College I studied Computer Science where I learned to do some computer programming. At university they assume that you have basic skills so it's good to learn as much as you can in grade 12.
Now I am enrolled in a Network Computing course at Monash University in Victoria. This is one of the few places that I can study such a specialised course. Later I will be able to set up a local network somewhere. It's really important to choose subjects you like.

Ayaka
|

|
My name is Ayaka and I come from Japan. When I first came to Elizabeth College, I joined the summer school before I started years 11 and 12. I enjoyed my two years and I did lots of different things in my time at Elizabeth College. I even made some furniture in the Woodwork class.
Because I want to work in the tourism and hospitality industry, I am now doing a Diploma in Hospitality at TAFE Tasmania. There is a special campus at Drysdale House, where there is a restaurant and accommodation facilities, so we can practise our skills on real customers.
